Integro – Negroamaro 2017
Producer: The Wine People
Winemaker: Stefano Chioccioli
Region: Puglia IGT
Integro – Negroamaro 2017 is a delightful wine for the price and our only Negroamaro. It is extremely hard to find natural wines under £10 that we feel are worthy enough to list, so you can imagine we were pleased to find this award winning wine and its sister wine, the Primitivo, from renowned producers The Wine People.
The colour is intense red with hints of purple.
On the nose it is intensely fruity, with raspberry and strawberry jams.
On the palate it is full-bodied, well-balanced, with some lingering dark fruit and a good finish.
Pairs well with pasta dishes, meat pizza, tomato-based Mediterranean dishes, red meat and game.
“Integro is the Italian definition for intact, whole, complete: With this pair of traditional organic wines, Primitivo and Negroamaro from Puglia, we totally respect their provenance by keeping the terroir untouched by any chemicals or pesticide.” Stefano Girelli

TWP Wines is run by Stefano Girelli, whose family has been at the heart of Italian winemaking for three generations. Stefano’s portfolio stretches the length of Italy, from the Veneto, to Tuscany, to Puglia and Sicily, and places a strong emphasis on Stefano’s passion for organic methods. Many of the wines are certified organic (and vegan!) and all are made in an eco-friendly way, with a long-term commitment to the environment.
Leading consultant winemaker Stefano Chioccioli, a friend and colleague of Stefano Girelli for many years, uses the best possible indigenous grapes to create wines with great quality and individual character. The Wine People’s wines speak of their terroir.
The grapes for Integro come from the San Donaci area, part of Salento. The wines of the Salento are rich and full-bodied – the microclimate of the Salento is perfect for producing deep and complex wines. The winery’s philosophy is to be in perfect harmony with nature, intervening only when absolutely necessary, thereby ensuring that each and every grape expresses its own personality.
The harvest is done in the early hours of the morning, with the grapes being put into 10kg crates. De-stemming is followed by fermentation at 22-24 °C for 8-10 days, during which time remontage is carried out daily. Malolactic happens spontaneously immediately after the alcoholic fermentation.
Residual sugar: 8.5
